I Wish I Knew Lara Croft

The ladies are really starting to make some noise in 2015 wouldn’t you say fellas? I mean is it just me or is the heroine starting to make a come back? Just look at Carol from The Walking Dead. If you’re up to date with the TV series then you know what I’m talking about. Zombies not your thing? Then how about Agent Carter? She’s definitely shaking things up in Marvel’s Cinematic Universe! So where do the ideas for these leading ladies come from? Well if you travel back in time 18 years you’ll find the humble beginnings of one of my favourite female protagonists, Buffy The Vampire Slayer! Joss Whedon, you still get props for creating an incredible series! But even before Buffy Summers, if you go back just one more year, you’ll find yet another legendary lady and she goes by the name of Lara Croft aka Tomb Raider. As Ludacris would say “My Chick Bad!” She may not have had her own ongoing series on the small screen, but she certainly made some noise at the box office when she jumped onto the big screen. It’s been a long time since I’ve seen Lara Croft: Tomb Raider starring Angelina Jolie, but I do seem to remember enjoying it. Unfortunately the sequel was a different story. I just happened to catch the tail end of it on TV the other night and I was truly surprised by what I saw. This was definitely a case of a sequel that did not measure up to it’s predecessor. But all is forgiven because even though Lara Croft’s second big screen adaption failed to keep our attention, in the back of our minds we knew that we could always come back to the original platforms where she truly shined. Our computers and/or consoles. Now I’ll be the first to admit that back in the day I did not have much dexterity or patience for PC gaming. I played one of the original Tomb Raider games for all of 10 minutes and gave up. I didn’t quite understand the franchise then, but things are much different now! Lara Croft has resurfaced much bigger, better and in high definition! Sorry Angelina. You were good, but Camilla Luddington plus Crystal Dynamics equals sheer, unprecedented, Tomb Raiding awesomeness! Finally a reboot that actually matters!
